Protesters charged with aggravated trespass after staging protest during iconic musical

The five Just Stop Oil protesters who disrupted a performance of 'Les Misérables' in London's West End on Tuesday evening have been charged with aggravated trespass.

The protesters, who are all members of the environmental group Just Stop Oil, stormed the stage during the performance at the Sondheim Theatre and unfurled a banner that read "Stop oil now". They were quickly removed from the stage by security guards, but the disruption caused the performance to be halted for around 20 minutes.

The protesters have been identified as Emily Brocklebank, 26, Louis McKechnie, 21, Jessica Agar, 21, Bethany Mogie, 40, and Rose Francis, 59. They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

Just Stop Oil is a civil resistance group that campaigns against fossil fuel production. The group has staged a number of protests in recent weeks, including blocking oil terminals and targeting oil company executives.

The group's actions have been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised the group for raising awareness of the climate crisis, while others have criticized the group's tactics.

The disruption of 'Les Misérables' is the latest in a series of protests by Just Stop Oil. The group has vowed to continue its campaign until the government agrees to stop all new oil and gas exploration.
